First: Today at work I was at the door, doing people greeting, and told a nicely dressed young lady 'have a great day, miss'. 'Miss' turned around and hugged me. 'Miss' also thanked me for acknowledging her as a her. I was confused. 'Miss' told me she's a tranny. I told her honestly that I'd have not guessed that on my own. She wore it well. In all the unexpected hugs at work, this is one of the few good ones!

Pimping: I am SO WEAK sometimes. I hadn't intended upon it but I was asked so sweetly.

Sign up. Get Porn. Sign-ups close March 14th.

And because I like to package my pimping with a little something extra to pay you for your time, I asked tangiblewhimsy for a word or picture or song.

The word?

The beads slide under Mimura's fingers, clicking and clacking in a fast but even pace. Tarou watches from the corner of his eye as Mimura arrives at the answer and stops, silence falling. He tilts his head and smiles fully as Mimura looks at him. "I got that, too," he answers.

Mimura picks up his soroban and tilts it, resets it. "You never touch it," he observes.

He knows that Mimura has noticed this much earlier—the fact that Tarou does not need to touch the abacus to calculate the answer. That Mimura is now speaking of it means something. He's just not sure what. "Just seeing it is enough," Tarou tells him.

"Ah," says Mimura.

Sometimes Tarou wishes he were smarter. He's good at school, he's great at scraping by happily working two or three jobs, he's wonderful at loving his family…but he is so very unable to figure Mimura out unless figuring him out is what Mimura wants Tarou to do. It's very frustrating. "Next problem?" he asks, writing in the answer from the previous one.

"Of course," Mimura answers and Tarou looks at his soroban and begins. He's got the answer but it feels wrong, somehow. He looks at Mimura and realizes that Mimura is not touching the beads. There is no soft snap of wood, no almost imperceptible rattle of bamboo. He looks at Mimura.

Mimura is looking at him, too. "Forty-eight thousand sixty-three and five sixths."

Tarou blinks. He can't remember if that's what he figured or not. "You didn't—"

"I don't have to," Mimura says. He smiles. It's his laughing smile, like when somebody's little sister has a boyfriend smile. "I haven't had to since grade school."

Neither has Tarou but. "Then—"

Mimura puts his hand on Tarou's arm. It's large and warm and solid and Tarou is taken by surprise. He stares at Mimura's hand on him, at Mimura's skin against his own. It is winter and Mimura's hand is as warm as if he'd had it under the kotatsu. There are strange almost-calluses on his fingers which Tarou knows comes from ikebana, from wielding the scissors, the kenzan frog, the flowers themselves. There is an almost unexpected strength in his hand and a gentleness which is what Tarou knows the best. "Let's have dinner, since we're done," says Mimura.

"What?" Tarou hears himself ask.

Smiling, Mimura does not remove his hand. "If you're done figuring out the problem, then let's eat," he repeats.

Mimura is too poetic, really. Tarou can only blame the flowers and Grandfather-san. But he smiles back and twists his arm so that he and Mimura are gripping each other's forearms. He presses his fingers minutely. He's not sure what he's counting even though he's pretty sure that it matters. When Mimura wants him to figure it out, Mimura will let him know. "Okay."

In the meantime, they might as well eat.

For some reason, I imagine this as YamaTaro feudal era AU. LOL PROBABLY BECAUSE SHO IS GORGEOUS IN KIMONO AND GORGEOUS AS MIMURA.

I love that Mimura just plays with the abacus for no apparent reason. I love that he just uses it to tick tick tick away while he mentally goes through the calculations. And I love that Tarou has never figured that out before, because there's something beautiful about Tarou slowly discovering things about Mimura's habits. When Mimura wants him to discover them, of course.

And forgive the icon, it's still my only YamaTaro.

Personally, I love your icon very, very much!

I love your comments, btw. They make me feel smart and good at this writing thing! Though I'm not sure it came across what I wanted was that Mimura doesn't have to touch anything--but he chooses to do so.

But mostly: Icon love. Aya love. ♥♥♥

Yay for making a transexual person happy! ^-^ And yes, an accidental kindness sometimes means a great deal to another person - I remember a fellow asexual talking about how happy she was because her gynecologist said "if you have sexual relationships" instead of "when you have...". It was probably quite accidental on his part, but just the fact that he acknowledged that she might never have sex, instead of just assuming that everyone's interested in "doing it" at some point in their lives, totally made her day. ^-^

Aww, Tarou and Mimura! They're still adorable! I have to agree with the first comment - somehow this totally feels like feudal era AU! In my case it's probably because of the abacus, though. I know they're still used in school's today, but the word "abacus" immediately makes me think of a wise man in former times (and in an Arabian country, for some very weird reason...).
I like the "feeling" of this story - I could sense the warmth and quietness surrounding them, only broken my the scratchings of their pencils and the clicking of the abacus. ^-^

(Also, hi! If this comment doesn't make sense, it's because I've got a bad cold at the moment and can't concentrate all that well. ^^")

Hurray for those moments that brighten up days!

And the fic is lovely. ♥ These moments between people are really so nice. Also, don't worry, Taro; I'm sure many people have trouble understanding Mimura-kun.
